View Full Version : Cut Plane Issue

I have some clerestory windows, so I duplicated my floor plan and called it a clerestory plan. Then I adjusted my cut plane to show the windows. Easy enough.

The plans are showing my windows (which are the same family) different for some reason. It appears that the cut plane is not cutting the window frame, even though it's set to cut it.

Anyone else seen this before?

Its something to do with the View Range.

Try this:

Place a section, then rotate it to horizontal--so it acts like a Floor Plan view,
and move it where it cuts right thru the clerestory windows.

How does the "horizontal section" compare graphically with your clerestory plan?

The section looks correct. So what does that mean?
I have my view ranges set as:
Top: Roof Line 0 offset
Cut Plane: 14' (The windows have a sill of 12' 8" and a head of 14'-8")
Bottom: Finished Lfoor 0 offset
View Depth: Finished Floor 0 Offset.

So why doesn't the cut plane cut the windows correctly?

Hard to say--can you post an example .rvt file?

cheers

LOL, well that's not the answer I was looking for Cliff.

Sure, here's the file. Don't laugh, I'm still new to Revit. :p

Well I guess I can't. I just saved the walls and windows out to another file, and it's still 8M after I purged everything. That doesn't seem right. It's just a few walls.

Try just one wall and one clerestory window above.

In the mean time, take a look at the attached dwfx.

Yep, that's pretty much how I understand it. Here's the file sir.

Open your window family and go to the Properties for the Floor Plan: Ref. Level

Edit the View Range and change its cut to 2'-0".

Reload it back into your project and see if that corrects your issue.

In the clerestory window family, set the sill height (default) to 3´ and the cutplane height to 4´... (To make sure the window is actually cut in the family editor) that might just do the trick for you. For some reason, Revit "Remembers" how the window was cut in the editor, and bring that information along to the project file... Have fun

Sounds like the same idea, and it worked. 2' in the fam editor did the trick.

Doesn't make any sense, though. Why would the family editor override the cut plane assigned in the project?

Anyway, it works. Thanks guys, I would have never thought of that.

Here ya go.

Just needed to adjust view depth and add symbolic lines in the window family.

cheers

I never thought of that, either. I guess I could have just added symbolic lines for plan views, and turned off the 3d geometry. Thanks Cliff.

Glad to help.

( Despite what a certain someone around here thinks, I actually do answer a lot of questions and solve a lot of problems very quickly.)
