Quantifying detail components

We're trying to use Revit to do cost estimate of construction projects.

Is there a way to quantify a detail component within a model?

I made this grade beam family. We need to have rigid insulation within the gap in the beam. Is there a way that the rigid insulation will follow the size of the gap? And secondly, is there a way to get the quantity of rigid insulation needed based on the size of the gap and length of the grade beam?

Detail items cannot be tagged or scheduled. If you want to tag or schedule it, it has to be a model component.
