I was looking into using the column schedule for concrete columns and came across this problem where the concrete column is omitted where the slab intersects it.

I have attached a real ROUGH example of what I am talking about.

I have found on this forum that some are using openings in the slab to overcome this, but now that we are in 2011, I was hoping someone had come up with a better solution.

I wonder if there is a better way to do this with just text, and omit the column graphic altogether.

Anyone?

The graphical schedule will simply show the column as it is in the model

You need to unjoin geometry for the column from the floor/beam to see the full column

If your column family is set to concrete it will automatically join to the slab and the slab takes priority to the column leaving you with the result you are getting.

You can either unjoin the column manually after placing, or consider changing the material type in the family, however this may affect analyis linking if you are using it

Actually, because slabs will always cut the column, and walls will always cut the column, you have to cut the slab around every column. If you un-join the slab, it will un-join from everything and you're framing will look all screwed up.
Best way I've solved the problem. Create it in Acad. The GCS was never really meant to be placed on a sheet. It was meant for more of a self check I believe. Hence no option to add text. Tags only.
