I'm running into the issue where I can't align to the faces of the individual materials in floor types, or wall types. The only line I can seem to align to is the outermost faces of the wall/floor.
could it be an issue with our floor/wall construction?

Have you tried hovering over the wall / floor and hitting the Tab key to cycle through the faces?

yeah, tried that.
its odd, since I haven't had this happen before. I just jumped onto this project so the model has been established for awhile. Its not just me, others working on the model are having the same issue

It could be how your wall is created, as you stated earlier. Are your material layers outside of the core boundaries? It almost seems like they are in the core boundaries.

the walls construction seems fine in reference to the core boundaries.
could it be whether layers wrap or not?
I can't see how it would but I'm wondering if it has something to do with join geometry tool.

I don't think so. My walls wrap and I can align to the faces. Can you post a cleaned up file with just the walls in question?
