I'm working on a remodel and we have an existing storefront with a door in it. We are leaving the store front frame but replacing just the door leaf itself.

It seems that I can't mark the door as being demo'd in any phase unless I do the entire curtain wall the door is hosted in.

What would be the best way to handle this situation. Right now I just override the doors in the view to correspond to the way I want them to look.

Put in a blank panel in place of the door.....the put in another curtain wall with no mullions and replace the panel with a door...this way you can demo the door/wall while keeping the original in place. Then if you add in a new door you just add in a new curtain wall with the door in the new construction phase.

Its kinda goofy...but I found you have to do similar if you want to demo a wall opening.

Unfortunately this triggers the overlapping walls warning, with no way around it.

Another possibility is to replace the system panel where the door is with any wall type, then place a regular door family with no frame in that piece of wall. Demo the door and then put a new one in.

Oh...yeah.... Just tried it

But...if you edit the profile around what needs to be demo'd you don't get the warning...

I have not tried this but,

You could build an unhosted door family and place it into the opening in your curtain wall.

Not very intelligent, but would it work for you?

Yep...that would work too....there are quite a few different methods... ;)
