Family inserted into project in wrong orientation

I have created a family (a round clock) using the generic family.rft template and I have inserted it into my project, see attached it is near the bottom right of the screen. I can't position it where it is needed (into the round hole of the tower). Can I fit this round peg into the round hole or do I need to create a new wall based family or something?

You should have started with a face based family in this case. But, the good news is that you can still fix this family. In the family editor, switch the values of both "Work plane-based" and "Always vertical". The default and the new values are shown in the illustration provided. Then, load into project, and use the "Pick New" button to select a new work plane: a face of the wall.
