View Full Version : View Order on Sheets...

I did a search on this subject, but either I'm using the wrong vocabulary, or it hasn't been brought up before.

I have a sheet upon which I've placed five views stacked in alignment on top of each other. My question is: Is there any way to change the view order, or the position of a particular view within the stack after the views have been placed? What I've had to do to get around this so far is strip the sheet of views and place them all over again which can become time consuming if there are multiple sheets in which I have to do this.

Is it possible to re-order these views without completely removing them from the sheet?

Thanks!

What are you detailing that requires 5 separate views?

I recall doing something similar to what your trying to accomplish, and I remember that the method your doing it is how I got it to work.....I am just wondering if there is an easier way...

The sheet is designed to represent a floor framing plan that shows wall framing both above and below the framing level cut plane. The walls below need to display window and door openings (requires a second horizontal cut plane) while the walls above need to show the same for the upper floor (requires a third horiztonal cut plane). These views are combined with mechanical, plumbing and electrical views to create the stacked situation I'm describing.

Some objects in the various views have been set to display transparently and unless the views are stacked in such a way, some of the transparent objects seem to lose their transparency. I'm not really sure if that's a bug or not it just requires that you keep the heirarchy of the views in mind when placing them.

My trouble is that if the views have been placed in an incorrect fashion, for whatever reason, it's time consuming to remove them and then replace them in the correct order. If you find the sheet in the project browser, and expand the ladder next to it, it displays the views that are placed and the order in which they've been placed. I just wondered if there was an easy way to re-order these without deleting the view from the sheet and then manually replacing it. A "move view up" and "move view down" sort of functionality.

Isn't that what sections are for?

I've never heard of anyone going through so much trouble in that way on a plan view...sounds like a lot of stuff going on in one plan....can post a sample by chance? I'm curious to see what something like this would look like...

I know - I apologize, it's somewhat difficult to describe and a graphic would probably help clear up some of the confusion. :) Unfortunately I don't really have time to prepare something that I could upload - but I'll work on that either later tonight or tomorrow.

Thanks, Michael.

Sounds like someone is using the overlay method of hand drafting and applying it to Revit....

I would think you can accomplish the same thing with the Overlay properties and then using the Override by object or category if you want certain items to be transparent or solid or shaded in a view...and stick with just that one...thus ending your frustrations ;)

create in independent view with a view range set above where the wall starts and below top of window. Make your floor transparent. Done. 1 view. But that sounds way to simple so I think I must be missing something
