Hi I have a wall mounted overflow drain that i have located at 2' above a ref plane, and the plan cut is at 3'6". In the drain family i have symbolic lines to represent the pipe (and model is turned off). Since my cut plane is located above the drain outlet, i cant see the hidden lines that represent the pipe in plan. Does anyone have any suggestions. I even tried converting the symbolic lines to model lines and associating them to a named reference plane that is located at 3'6" (cut plane for floor plan). But that didn't work either. Can someone help me out. thanks.

Try adding an invisible line in the family that extends vertically to about 4'. That line will get cut by your view range and the symbolic lines should show up.

Also - when using this invisible line trick:
make it a model line
turn off visibility
ensure "not a reference"
just to keep it nice and clean when in your project

Inserting an invisible line vertically (in elevation) would only create a single point in plan? Sorry if i wasn't clear i need to show the pipe connection in plan as a dashed line. I have put a extrusion that extends a bit above the cut plain that is the thickness of the pipe ( and thinner than the wall so that the wall is only cut inside the exterior and interior face). I don't think this is a good way to do it, but was the only thing i could come up with. Any comments or new ideas would help...thank you ..

Maybe I misunderstood the problem. Can you post the family and a screen shot of what you'd like to see?

Here is a screen shot of the plan view. the hidden lines are the indication for the pipe for the over flow drain. And the family is a wall based gen.model.

I had a look. When you place the family are you using your placement Level parameter (type parameter) to locate it or are you using the Offset parameter (instance)?
The invisible line trick does work but if the line is locked to the placement plane and then you offset the family above the views cut plane the family, including the invisible line you are trying to cut, will move outside the cut plane so the lines won't show up.
See the revised family attached. I placed your hidden lines off center so they are easier to see in the family editor. You can locate them where they need to be.
