Because of planning we often end up modelling composite walls all as separate walls. You tend to run in too the tedious work of turning of wall joins.

I would like to know what your experience is with this problem.

I want to submit a wish but the forum board won't let me anymore.

I would help us a lot if walls would get an option that would enable walls to only join with their own type / kind. (I know it's a bit of a racist like demand)

I can't help you on your other question, but I can tell you that we are working on a new wish list system that will work for every product, not just the 5 we have now.

Wall made of different material will not join. So that's one way you could try it. ie 4000psi concrete won't join to 3000psi concrete. Both look exactly the same.
Just a thought.

You can join walls....but the materials will not merge...

Something to think about joining walls.....you take a big hit on project performance... :(

it's not material merging that is the problem. I often don't want walls to automatically join.

it's not material merging that is the problem. I often don't want walls to automatically join. To use bad English... "Ain't gonna happen, sorry" There isn't a toggle to say to Revit what you'd prefer to have happen in this situation. Joining of geometry, especially walls, happens automatically. You have to, after the fact, go into the join, and 'Disallow Join'. Yes, this has been on the wish list for a while, as with Auto Miter of corners....

Regarding what MP said (and not knowing your exact process), there is a performance hit regarding the 'multiple walls for each wall layer' trick. Revit 'wants' to keep track of all these joins and will try... and try ... and try to make sure everything is OK.

Is there a reason why you just don't create Wall Types for each available option - (OPT 1A, 1B, 1C, 2A etc...), and just swap out the wall types later on??? Assuming the structure is the same and doesn't change (ie 6" mtl stud), setting the Wall Location Line to center of core might allow for minimal impact when changes occur.
