when I could start a line at a point, set ortho on, pull to the right, give it a distance, and it went! 2011 won't do that. What setting do I need to use so that it does that? I can't even give it the distance@ an angle, although, ortho being on, I shouldn't have to. What gives?

I was under the impression that this is Direct Distance Entry- but its not working! What do I need to do so that it does?

Yes, it is Direct Distance Entry and I don't know any way to disable it but, from Help, -
"Note: The direct distance entry method is not available while you are using the temporary override keys for Ortho mode, object snap tracking, or polar tracking."
Does it misbehave in Move/Copy as well as in Line?

I tried by following what you've done:
1) command: Line
2) set ORHTO on by
2.1) clicking the "ortho mode" button on lower left corner on the screen, or
2.2) entering 'ortho for temporary override.
3) pull the cursor to the right
4) enter
4.1) a distance, or
4.2) @ distance < angle
It works! I can't see anything wrong.
Does anyone has the same problem?
