Hi,
Using Revit Arch 2011, is it possible to cut out the inner blockwork leaf as indicated in red in the image below? I know I can screen it out in detail view, but what about the overall model?

You could create an in-place void and cut it from the wall.

Hi Dimitri,
Is there a tutorial anywhere that shows how to do in-place voids and cuts? I'm new to Revit, so finding it difficult to navigate the menu. I've created some geometry, but can't get it to cut the walls. Can't believe it's so hard to create create such a common construction detail!

There's a multi-step process that needs to be followed, but it's not difficult. Walls can be cut using In-place Components set to Wall type. Go to Home/Component/ Model In Place. When you get the Family Category dialogue, scroll down and choose wall. Name the soon-to-be created component something like "cut block from 10-line wall" or some such.
You'll need to have a view set up parallel to your wall, and a work plane to sketch on. If the wall is on a grid line, you can Set Work Plane to the grid line. Otherwise, you can create a reference plane parallel to the wall and give the reference plane a name, and then Set Work Plane to that ref plane.
Then, Home/Extrusion, and set the extrusion type to Void. Sketch the profile of the wall you want to demolish. Before finishing the Component in-place family, you need to Cut the wall with the family (choose cut, select the wall, then select your void extrusion wall Component). As long as the void is actually touching the wall, it will cut the wall. You can take single layers of wall out this way, or several layers at a time, simply by being careful where your void extrusion starts and stops.

Another method is to create a custom column family that has the void area cut out already....columns don't have to be square or round.... ;)

Believe it or not, it was easier to create a new login identity than to try and muddle through my old identity.
Seeing your image, I would wrap my cmu around the wide flange, rather than getting involved with a void extrusion.

Seems to me like you could just use a wall to go around. You wouldnt need to create any extra family.
The Inplace family would work if you only have a few occurance. I cant see my self doing that over 200 columns.
Do you need to model for wuantity? If not you could simply use a detail component on top.
If so, you need to use a custom family.
