Displaying Hidden Lines of object

I have a single object in my file which I would like to display with hidden lines. When I go to the Hidden Line View, I should see the back edges as dashed or hidden, but those back edges do not display. How can I get them to display with a dashed or hidden line type?

Could you elaborate? What's the object? A family you built? A system family? Something under something else?
