Controlling OmniClass Number w/ Type Catalog

Hello All,

I tried last week to drive the OmniClass Number parameter from a Type Catalog and it failed. Is there a reason that the OmniClass Number is only editable from the family editor? What I'm trying to do is control the parameter for interior vs exterior doors. This is to minimize the number of families in which we need to manage.

Currently, there is only one Omniclass number allowed in a family. It is not changeable by type as is the Assembly Code.

It's because of the object organization, and not how it appears in schedules.
The proper approach it's to think of it by the way revit organizes components:

Families
Types (now symbols)
Instances
