I just bought a new computer about 6 months ago. I tried to load AutoCAD 2008 on to it but am having trouble having Autodesk accepting the aouthorization code. It is a ligitimate copy of the software. I have read that the older versions of AutoCAD do not operate on the new Windows 7 software but a patch can be downloaded to enable it to run. I also undestand that Autodesk will no longer support 2008 after March 31.

It seems to make seens to me that one could buy a new computer and use the old software to a point. Does anyone have any suggestions in how to get me up and running again?

Thanks for your help.

Mike

it it is a legitimate copy, call your reseller, or call/email autodesk directly for the authorization code. It was sold as a 'perpeptual use' license, so they have no option to simply ignore you.

Whether they want to or not, autodesk has to support older versions for installation at least. you may however, have to install WinXP instead of Win7. working on untested (at the time 2008 was released) is at your own risk.

Software never wears out, and truthfully, solid state computers rarely do. bit and pieces may fail from heat or power fluctuations, but it's always possible to repair them as long as parts exist.

Mikeif you have windows 7 pro, you could use the Windows XP Virtual PC, or you could also look into using a virtual machine via other software out there. I personally prefer Virtual Box

What eactly do you mean by "having trouble having Autodesk accepting the aouthorization code."?
Do you mean Autodesk the company or AutoCAD the software?
