My question is in regard to the drafting convention that first floors be on level 100'-0". It is my understanding that the further a model gets away form the origin, the less accurate "things" become. Is the simple fix to this to move the origin. I have done this and just want to verify that this is the best solution. Any comments or suggestions are welcome.

I wouldn't worry about 100' as far as accuracy that is more if you are 2 miles away from the origin. The 100'-o" and how you deal with it may be an issue if other team members are using 0'0" as their base and you want to use shared coordinates to show sea level or city datum height.

Better to figure it out before you model anything and just move level 1 to 100'-0" in the project coordinates if the rest of the team is ok with it. that way shared can be used for civil coordination.

I think it's more like 10 miles in v2011

10 mile radius, 20 mile diameter.

Relocating the project (to a 100') doesnt change anything to the maximum radius distance so no worries.
