Can this be one roof or is it a two joint roof?

It is always better to have less geometry in a project. Use one roof.

Open the attachment to see.

Draw your roof, then use tools-join-unjoin roof tool to get the lower portion to go back to the wall by first selecting the upper inner edge of the roof then the wall.

I have very inconsistent results with the roof joining back to the wall. In one model, I was able to get 2 of 3 to join back to the wall, and the 3rd had to be created as a separate roof and geometry joined. Has anyone discovered a guaranteed method?

Well upon closer inspection, I may have discovered your secret. I'll have to play with it on my projects. It looks like the gable walls, you make them TALLER than the roof and then they join "downward" to attach their top to the roof.

Now, the wall right now extends into the other room. The problem is, what if you want an inside corner there? Well, I was able to edit the wall profile to create the outside corner, keep the lower roof joined to the wall, and the wall joined to the upper wall!

This might be good stuff....

I don't think it matters whether the wall under the short roof starts out above or below the roof. As long as you pick the correct face of the short roof to join with the gable wall before you attach the top of that wall to the short roof. It always seems to work that way for me anyhow.

So the wall needs to be _taller_ than the low roof, then you join the low roof to the wall, then you join the wall to the upper roof. That could finally be the secret!

Yes, the gable roof needs to be above the level of the short roof ( infact it should be joined to the upper roof ) then join the low roof to the gable, then trim the wall to join under the low roof.

Does that make any sense. ( I'm currently looking into video tutorials - this would make an excellent candidate for a short test one, since its very hard to describe the process in words. )

A video tutorial describing this process has been posted HERE. (http://forums.augi.com/showthread.php?p=78241#post78241)

Its just a trial run, as this was a relatively simple one to test with.
