Not sure why, since switching to RA 2011, when I draw the footprint of a roof it's not letting me enter an overhang. Box is greyed out.
Thanks

You've used draw lines to generate the overhang line and Revit has no clue which wall it belongs to. You need to use pick walls to make the outlines if you want to use the overhang box.

So overhang is only possible with "pick walls" ? If I create a roof with just boundery lines, how can I maintain slope angle and have different overhangs?

Just pick the lines you want to have slope and different overhangs on and adjust as needed. move for more/less overhang, check on the box for being a sloped line and set the slope pitch/angle.

that doesnt work if you want the ridge to stay put

I don't know what you mean by that. You can align eaves or adjust the offset of the line to move the ridge around.

I'm sorry, but I'm not sure what your after. If you want your roof to look like that in section... you will have to set the offsets of the eave(sloped) lines in sketch mode to exactly what they need to be to keep the ridge in the center. If your roof is a simple rectangle, you could alternatively do roof by extrusion (which allows you to sketch the "section" view of the roof and extrude it) instead of roof footprint. either way you still gotta figure out what the offsets of the eave lines will be to keep the ridge in the center. Does that help? I can post a sample later today if you still need.
