I have been given a revit model for a school assignment and need to add a horizontal sunshade to one side of the building. It is strictly for the purpose of doing a solar study so it doesnt need to look good or anything. It just needs to have the ability to cast a shadow.

i just need to add a thin horizontal rectangle that projects out from the building to block the sun.

The easiest way to create these 'one off' elements is to use an in-place family.
From the home tab select component > model in place.
