View Full Version : Concrete schedules from modeled reinforcing

I am gearing up for my first concrete "heavy" project in Revit and I am looking for help making schedules. As I have done before for grade beams and the like, I've made parameters and manually filled in the items for each instance. I have downloaded the 2011 Extensions pack and have learned how to model the reinforcing. The extension pack asks me specifically for "upper bars" and "lower bars" and I am allowed to place stirrups as needed (ie, 1 @ 3, xx @ 6", bal @ 12). It seems to me that I should be able to 'find' that information in order to make schedules.
I cannot locate a parameter or anything else that looks useful. Entering the reinforcing like this seems MUCH more useful to me rather than using the text parameters - especially with the "Interferences of Reinforcing Bars" extension.
Can anyone help me locate a previous thread or somehow otherwise enlighten me. My forum and google searching have left me empty handed.
Thanks!

Are you talking about using the modeled 3D reinforcement to populate the concrete beam schedule? If so, I think the unfortunate answer is you that you can’t (would love if someone corrected me here if I am wrong!). As of right now, you can schedule a concrete beam and you can schedule reinforcement, but there is no way to link the two items. I feel this is a huge sticking point to completing concrete projects in Revit – or at least giving the engineer the desire to use the tool to its fullest.
Currently you have to have a concrete object to “host” any 3D reinforcement that you want to use. However, for some reason, when you go to schedule that concrete beam – they have not allowed you to be able to check and see what is being hosted by that beam. To me, this feature (or lack of feature) has kept me from exploring more modeled reinforcement. I feel that there is a great deal a designer could gain from the use of modeled rebar, but at this time the effort you have to put in gives you a check, but doesn’t help document the work.
So this has brought me to the conclusion that unless you have a complex reinforcement cage, the return on the time to model reinforcement isn’t worth it. The only way to efficiently use the 3D reinforcement in my opinion is to call out the reinforcement live on sections. While this could work for a simple project with only a few conditions, as the complication increases – the ability to document that way decreases.
Well, now that I have gotten up and ranted about this, I will stop. Hope there is someone out there that knows more that I do and can help me see a better way to utilize this capability.
I couldn't agree more. This limitation drives me crazy.

I have to agree that not being able to "link" hosted reinforcement to a concrete member's schedule is something that Autodesk needs to work out. I have wanted to use the modeled reinforcement on my projects, but I have not because the return on time just isn't there. Fix this problem and I would be first in line to use it!
Come one Autodesk!! Get this fixed!

Are you looking to schedule your modeled rebar say per wall or pier, etc.?
