PDF shows diameter symbol as dots

I'm getting pdfs of acad drawings with a line of dots instead of the diameter symbol (phi).

Has anyone else had this problem, and do they know a solution.

Otherwise I'm faced with typing in dia after the dimension( a bit time consuming)

It could be a font-related problem - what font do your dimensions use and/or try redefining your dimstyle to use a different font.

As a work around - if the dia symbol is part of your dimension style or generated automatically, just redefine the style to include "Dia" as a suffix - though you might then need to separate diameter dimensions from all other dimensions and use a second dimstyle. There are many possible variables there.

Another option would be to check the settings of your PDF printer driver and change the settings to include fonts.
