This seems so basic, and I wonder why I have only just had to do this, but, how do you handle dimensions in Revit on ducts with insulation?

I am trying to create a document for site to show the contractors the clearances on the ducts for installation, however in section I cant reference the insulation. If I am lucky there is an elbow in the background which I can dimension to but if not then I have to create a detail line and dimension to this.

I know we dont dimension often in MEP, but when we do it would be good to be able to reference anything important on the screen.

Does anyone have an interesting workaround? or am I missing an easy way to do it?

I want an simple dimension, not a centreline dimension with duct size solution, to make it error proof on site.

Provide a dimension from the bottom of the duct. We put BOD and BOP dimensions on the plans, then have a general note for duct which says BOD dimensions do not include insulation.
