Exterior area in gross building scheme

Is it possible to show exterior areas (porches, covered loading docks, etc.) in the default Gross Building Area scheme. The help files refer to exterior areas, but I can't find a way to do it.
Or should I make a custom area scheme?

Yes, draw your area boundary, place an area tag, then pick on the tag and there is a property for area type and one is exterior.

Oops. I had the Pick button active instead of the draw. Still getting used to the Revit interface.
