Hello,

Exporting from Revit MEP 2011 Using Naviswork Manage 2011. I am using duct as underground ductbank in my site work. Because duct is a system family I cannot duplicate and call one run of duct "Power" and another run "communication"

My end result would be to have these two types of underground duct banks export to different colors so when some big shot looks on the screen they see two different colored ductbanks.

I am saying that it cannot be done unless I go into acad and adjust layers but they do not want to hear that.
Has anyone ever accomplished such a task? (w/o going into acad)

(usually i am on the MEP forum, my first post here. I tried searching for similar threads but no luck)

thanks

gary

Could you share a nwc file, there may be a way to do it, possibly by level or some other parameter that is different between the two

Are you talking about something as simple as selecting the item (ductwork), right clicking, and then selecting Override Item, then Override Color?

If not, then yeah, let's see what you're trying to do..

I have two underground ductbanks (using duct in revit) one duct is power and the other is communication. When I export to cad to run clash detection in Navisworks, both ductbanks appear the same color.

Multiple disciplines are involved in this project and each discipline has their own colors. I am doing the electrical underground. When I export to 3d cad, I want the two ductbanks to be different colors. I do not want to go into acad and make changes each time I export.

I think I might get into trouble if I post the nwc. I am not the owner and not sure if I am overstepping boundaries.

thanks,

gary

Is there a reason you're exporting to CAD instead of NWC? You'll have better fidelity of the data in the model if you export to NWC directly from Revit. In NW, you can identify the different object properties and make search sets to isolate the different ducts. Also, with the subscription add on, you can use the Appearance Profiler to assign colors to specific object properties or search sets.

You should be able to just create an nwc file straight from Revit MEP that can be placed in the NWF or NWD file for clash detection.

Otherwise, you'll need to see what Revit is doing with the layers it exports your ducts to in Autocad. There's a chance that it puts them on separate layers but, uses the same colors.

You can write a quick lisp routine to select everything on one layer and change the color but, it would be an extra step to run everytime you export your rvt to acad.

I'd check into the export properties for the Autocad Layer colors. Keep in mind though, if you change those colors, you're going outside of AIA standards as well.
