Hmmm, my original post didn't make the page...

Anyways,

Long story short, We have a building that needs to be designed using these bizzare air space differences.

A wall has a 3" air space/2" air space/and 1". The attached .rvt file shows how I think one should go about this design, but was curious if there is a simplified or more effective way to get this look/design, using columns or curtains walls, or simply the way I thought of...

Mind you, the current file has a stacked wall with 3"gap bottom and 2" gap top, and I have 3 walls cutting it each with different air spaces.

[edit] I had to use megaupload as the file is 4mb.

can you post a picture of the situation(s) in question. I'll be honest, you'll get a lot of people hesitant to download from a site like that....

Wow....that is a lot of offsets....

What you got is one way of doing it.....Personally I might have the stud layer consistent and the brick be a separate wall...but it seems to work... Is there really a soldier course on the interior or are your offsets wrong?

Something weird happened when I copy/pasted it (regarding the soldier course).

I'll toss up some PDFs shortly. One question I have, if you have two (2) different walls parallel to each other, how does the window know to cut both walls?

Attached PDF. I think it shows what I'm going after.

Either adjust your view range to that level temporarily....or create another view so that the view range is always there....or add the window in 3D....or add the window in an elevation view... ;)

As long as you join the individual walls together, openings will cut through the entire assembly. Hosted doors and windows that are based on the wall thickness will still only extend to the individual wall they're on though, so you may need to create some custom frames to make it look right.

I totally misread that.....

So what I'm gathering, is your wall creation would consist of an "air layer" that is "inside" and Brick thickness "Structure" so you can join the walls together when they are parallel.
