View Full Version : Reporting Parameter for Header Height

Yep, I know Revit has a Head Height parameter built in to projects, that you have no control over. It reports the geometry head height and not the opening head height. and if you put some trim around the window the head height in the project gets all wacked out. So I was attempting to use reporting parameters to do my own head height where I want it to be.

I'm currently in dialog with Autodesk support and starting to feel like....:banghead:... again.

I placed a dimension in my window family (see attached) for head height, and made it a reporting parameter. I also have a dimesion 'jamb depth' as a reporting parameter. jamb depth works when in a project but but head height does not. Can anyone explain what the difference is? Support claims that my head height parameter "is not driven by anything" like the help file says needs be.

From the help....
“A reporting parameter is a parameter type that has its value driven by a particular dimension in the family model”

I believe the OOTB head height is a function of the opening cut.

I believe the OOTB head height is a function of the opening cut.Not even close. It is a function of sill height (which revit determines internally) plus the height parameter. I can delete the height dimension in the window and set it to zero, and then when loaded into a project your head height will match the sill height even though your window by itself is taller than the sill height.

blahhh I looked at it and tried a couple of things but I have no idea why it's not working. It most definitely should be working.

blahhh I looked at it and tried a couple of things but I have no idea why it's not working. It most definitely should be working.I'm glad you could share your head on my wall..:banghead: I'm finding report parameters to be mostly a tease. I thought maybe I could also use them to dynamically set a width for void cut in my wall exterior coverage to show some window trim, only to find they can't be used in a formula unless they COMPLETELY reference host geometry (not reference planes locked to hosted geometry. Well apparently voids in the host are not considered host geometry as I can't dimension to them and I can't use the report parameter on a nested family to check how wide it is and set another parameter.... ugghhh. So much for making my users tasks easier/faster.

Has anyone found a use for report parameters, other than curtain panels, and jamb widths?

:banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:

The suppport response.

Here’s a great link that will help. As I indicated in an earlier e-mail your reporting parameter is currently reporting the HeadHeight, which is 7’-0”. However, in order for a reporting parameter to work correctly it needs to be on the host, not on the host and the Ref plane. http://dorevit.blogspot.com/2010/03/revit-2011-reporting-parameters.html

So where is the second host? The second video shows reporting parameters going to reference planes only. I've come to the conclusion that you have no clue what is host and what is not. so again I :banghead:

Tried a Global Parameter for the Head Height too... no luck

Haven't tried this out to test it, but...
If the jamb depth is reportable, then why not link it to the jamb depth value with a formula?

Also have you tried out CASE APPS?
There is a plugin in there "parameter to parameter" that will search for parameters you "normally" can't report and you might find it gives you what you want.
