Can anyone tell me...How to make my exterior elevations look more realistic, they look painfully flat, I want buildings in the back look lighter than the front, I know there is a way using filters but, I haven't found it.

Thanks

Use the linework tool to give different lineweights to similar elements, or select objects and override graphics in view.

Thanks man, I already tried that but, I know there is a way to create filters in a word or Excel format and bring them over to revit, its a complex way but you don't have to use linework tool or 2D lines, if I find it I will post it here or I'd send you the link. Thanks anyway

If you are doing presentation elevations i prefer to render them. Here is an example. For CD elevations you set your elevation template to have wall projection lines, roof projections lines, columns, etc at around 4. Then you grab stuff far in the background and use the overide tool to send them to back. I use consistant colors for elevation at CD's too. It helps. here is an example of a rendered elevation and just a typical CD elevation

You can also turn on shadows and then set the darkness of the shadow to 30 percent instead of the default and that helps alot.

PS I try to never use the linework tool. It takes too long. You can usually get there by adjusting the projection lineweights.

PPS I also typicaly use a solid light grey hatch on my glass, that helps alot.

We have done some elevations with shadows as you suggest, and I think they really read nicely. It makes up for the lack of line weight gradations.

Nice Scott :) I need to show it to some folks in this office who think that you can only use CatchUp in design. Wait, that mis-conception exists elsewhere

You can also place Glass wall or walls in sequence and check box for Ghost Surfaces (Revit 2012 only) under Override Graphics in View - By Element, for those walls. It will grey out all the elemnts behind it.
You will have to put them on a separate workset or filter them out form other views.
