View break

Hi,
I was under the impression that view breaks were to provide a means of breaking up a long (or high) view so that it can fit onto a sheet. However I discovered that it's impossible to move the broken views closer to one another & the resultant view is still the same length (or height) as the unbroken view. Is this the case or am I not doing something right? Please help, thanks.

When you split a view you should see grips on the edges and a move icon in the middle of the view. Resize the view by dragging the edges in then you should be able to move the views closer. If the edge boundaries touch Revit assumes you want to rejoin them.
