View Full Version : "Parts"

I guess this feature was put in for contractors. But for me, it looked like a way to customize things like wall layers - the ability to edit the profile of each layer. And it does do that (in an indirect way), but the visibility settings seem cumbersome. For example, just saying:), if I want to drop an inner wall layer down, I can do that, but if I want to see that as a final result, I have to change the "Parts" visibility on each view. Ok, not what I want to have to do, but ok. Now, if I want to customize that dropped-down shape with a cut-out, I also have to, in each view, after clicking on "Parts," I have to Hide-In-View>Element, for each and every cut-out.? That's tedious. Something to work on for the next release or am I wrong?

Notice there can be some ghosting, of a material that's had a piece of it "cut out", on the underlying material layer.

Parts can be Phased as well. Put your cut-outs on a different Phase and "demo" them to disappear in all views.

What do you mean by this ghosting? Could it be due to very thin layers viewed from a distance?

Awsome Scott. I hadn't noticed the new options under Phasing, when a part is selected. But it's explained in the Wikihelp. THANKS!

1) Absolutely right, Tamas
2) Hey - make that the next POINT release. :)

From a BIM point of view, are they actually demolished? Or is this a workaround?
I would prefer using a view filter or put that in a view template of sorts... but I will likely not ever run into this specific problem.

Glad to hear it's still in dev. One or two things I would like to see about Assemblies is 1) the same Sorting and Grouping options as with views and sheets, and 2) being able to place the Assembly detail views on a sheet that exists outside the Assembly. Also more Group like behavior such as interchangeabillity, auto-update copies etc so each assembly can be copied and adapted as required. Or am I shooting for the sky now. ;)

Great work, checks a lot of markers for me and I hope to see some more added value soon!

So I buy into this whole parts/phasing idea - NOW WHAT???
How do I get the new wall finish material to be attached to the existing wall "parts" that are not demo'ed???
:(

OK - here is my comment - how the heck do I demo external material and then add a new material in the new phase????

Hasn't someone out here figured this out? I have searched and I cannot find any answers to demo'ing just a "Part" of the wall and then adding the new material.

I got the whole parts demo stuff - it is the parts add stuff that has me miffed.

From what I can tell, the "parts" feature is really just for documentation, i.e. showing layers of an assembly in a 3D view, etc. The actual model is not affected as the edits are view-specific.

SO - how does one go about demo'ing exterior layer and adding a new exterior layer to a wall???
What methods have been used???

Create a wall type that is just the material that you want to demo.. place it on the wall that is getting modified with the size you want to be removed....cut that wall from the existing wall (Oh, this is done in the Existing Phase....) Then you can demolish the wall you placed in the next phase.
