How do you clear up an issue with objects in worksets being locked up by other users?
(sorry for the cross-post... I searched and found an OLD thread where I posted this scenario, but just now realized it was in the MEP section... figured a posting here might get quicker attention.)

User C, using RST2011 in one office.
User R, using RAC2011 in another office, 350 miles away.

User C needs to work on his structural model and documentation. Each day, he opens his RST2011, chooses open>project and browses to the network drive where the central file exists. Revit chooses the "create local file" box for him. He opens, STC and gets on with his work.

Somewhere along the way, User R (a very new RAC user, not fully aware of the "detatch from central" box) opened the model. Not sure if he was able to get into the Central file, or if he created a local file. He must have touched on a few structural members. He says he was unable to close without keeping ownership of the members... the file he has on his computer is from March 18. Today is April 26.

User C cannot make changes to several of the structural members. He gets the message that User R needs to relinquish.

We've tried getting User R to open his file, and close, relinquishing objects. Also, his file is so dated, we really don't want to have him STC. What can we do to get User R out of the Structural model???

Fun work around. tell him to close without saving (if you dont want any of his changes). without relinquishing objects.
now, if you know his user name you can change your user name to the same name and open the file and relinquishing elements. to change user name go to the big R in the top left of Revit, go to options, under the general tab you can change your user name.

Tip: Remeber to change your user name back to what it was afterwards.

FYI, User C does not need to do an STC if they have just browsed to the Central and opened using the "Make Local" option. The copy they got IS the latest, so an immediate STC is just a waste of time. If he opens his Local directly, THEN he'll need to do an immediate STC .

And, just to be the grammar police, its SWC now. ;)

Yes, I thought it was odd; however, when creating/opening a new local file directly from the Central file, RST2011 tells us to SWC. I don't know why. It just does, so we do.

What's fun is when someone somehow takes ownership the Project Information and they never even opened the model... Something is glitchy with the Shared Coordinates as I had it happen to me when doing a Shared Coordinates class at our LUG.... The structural user somehow took ownership of the architectural model....

This has happened numerous times with our current project as well....people get very annoyed that they have to open a model just to relinquish when they never even opened it.
