I am wondering is there a way to edit the column families to have a on/off toggle to show a solid fill the same shape as the coolumn? We shown up only columns with a soid fill pattern in CAD and would like to have that same option in Revit. I looked in the Column family but did not see any way to show a filled region in the family. Does anyone have any ideas to accomplish this?

Type VG in the active screen or plan you wish to show your columns this way.
Scroll down the list to structural columns (or architectural depending on your discipline and how you are placing your columns)
Go to "cut patterns" and set it to the hatch type and color your want.
Done.
I would suggest that once you do this you create a view template from this plan by right clicking on the view name in your project browser, and "create view template from view" name it "<company name>Plan Views"
Then the next plan you set up all you have to do is right click on the new plan name in the project browser and "apply view template" select your newly created <company name>Plan Views template, and accept.
In the long run the recommendation would be to create a project template that ALWAYS has this option applied, along with other settings you wish to customise for your company.
