Hello

I have customized the .txt file to comply with our office standards, and have them loaded when we export to a dwg/dxf/etc.

However, I have stumbled upon one issue.

In our office, when we are separating the layers to different phases (existing, demolition, new construction, etc) we have a prefix in front of the general layer names to note the phase. For instance, EX-WALL (existing wall) DE-WALL (demolished wall), etc.

It is possible to separate the walls i have modeled in Revit and put them in the correct phase construction and will export into the correct layer name. HOWEVER, the EX, and DE are prefixes, and i want them to be suffixes. So it becomes WALL-EX, WALL-DE instead of EX-WALL, DE-WALL like how I want to.

The phase layer category in the dwg/dxf import dialog is under Existing and Demolition, and have the layer names to be "-EX" or "-DE". I changed it to "EX-" or "DE-" thinking it might put the EX and DE as a suffix but it becomes WALLEX- and WALLDE- instead. It's not allowing me to put it in the front of the layer name.

I cannot figure out how to do it. Any suggestions?

It wasn't possible when I last tried, but that was in 2008. I doubt it's changed since then.
Ask yourself - just how important is it that the layers are named exactly that way? Sometimes it's easier to bend with the wind, know what I mean? :)

Yeah, it hasn't changed since 2008. We are using 2011 at our office.
We are trying to stick with the same layer names with a landscape architecture firm in europe to coordinate our drawings and make it easier for both parties to understand what each one is. I guess we will just tell them that we need to follow "this" way since we can't change it. OR i go to AutoCAD after I export the drawing and run a LISP routine.

It will be wonderful in the near future when this is possible. I don't see how hard it can be to make Revit do this for the next update.

Hello,

This can be done in Revit 2012 by using layer modifiers (in this case the “Phase Status” is the layer modifier). The layer modifier can be added wherever you choose to display it inside the layer. See attached image.

Thank you!

Exactly what I was looking for.

However.... we are not going to upgrade to 2012 yet.... But at least I know it is available in the newest release.
