Well this is a first for me on zoogdesign.

i've been using ADT and AutoCAD for about 8 years now and just recently i've started to pay much closer attention to Revit.

The company i work for needs to upgrade. we were gonna do ADT (of course) then i started to play around (demo licence) with Revit. And the 15 hours of play time i've worked with it, i've fallen in love with its ability to do all that ADT could do (with about 4 times the work effort).

So, now getting more into the program itself, i am trying to create a family (just to see how it all works together) and for some reason i can't get a model line to lock itself (when i tell it to) to the intersection of two refernce planes. if i move one plane the line follows it along exactly, but doesn't strech or shrink to maintain that intersection restriction.

can someone please tell me what i'm doing wrong? or a step by step method?

OK - these are the basic steps:

1) Draw all of your reference planes first.

2) Add parameters one by one and check to make sure they are working.

3) Once all of your reference planes are moving correctly then add your solid geometry and lock the edges to your reference planes.

Also, I am not quite sure what you mean by an intersection restriction. I don't think this is possible in a Revit Family.

thanks scott for the reply

however, i don't want to apear helpless (but i am)

i can add a parameter (sheared parameter on the file menu) but i don't know what they do. or what they mean
and how they come into play.

can you or someone please give me a run down on this?

Have you run through the tutorials on Families yet ?

When you place a dimension, pick on it and in the options bar, just above the main workspace window, a pull down called label will appear pick the parameter you created or click add parameter and this is how you make the dimensional controls.
