View Full Version : Running Revit as AutoCAD?

Okay, first - a big apology for posting this inane question, but I can't seem to find the right search term to get a useful hit.

I've downloaded my shiny new copy of Revit 2012, but I still have to get to - and work in - 8 years of AutoCAD drawings in vanilla AutoCAD. Is there a shortcut syntax like we used to use with ACA2009 to get Revit to run as vanilla Acad, or do I need to contact my reseller to get a separate AutoCAD disk to be able to run Acad2012?

Revit has no AutoCAD underpinnings, completely separate application. If you purchased the Autodesk AutoCAD Revit Suite then it includes AutoCAD but it is a separate application and installation.

Thanks, Steve. I suspected that this was the case, but couldn't figure out where to get the rest of the package. I'll bug my reseller today. I work in a niche of SE that has nearly zero 3D work being done, but Revit was the next "logical" package to get when we upgraded last year to get with the current .dwg format.

I've been so busy the last couple of years, and my CAD tech hasn't been interested in pushing the CAD envelope, that I may as well have lived under a rock for the past 3-4 years when it comes to what AutoDesk has added to the lineup.

The 2012 Autocad is in the 2012 Structural Detailing download for Suite users.
This will install both 2012 Structural Detailing and 2012 Autocad.
Will give you two icons after the install. The install is different this year.
Would like to know if there is a way to install only 2012 Autocad for Suite users.
