How can I substitute the tab delimited keynote text file I created with the default file in Revit 2011? I don't want to modify the OTB version; I want to use mine.

Go to Annotate, then hit the gray bar that says Tag followed by a triangle. That's where the Keynote Settings button is located.
We have tried to use keynotes, but find them more limiting than helpful, although not by much. Their behavior is not as smooth as it could be, and there doesn't seem to be enough flexibility. It'd be great if one could keynote something like "2x4", and then follow with a custom clause like (, shaped).

Mike, have you tried Keynote Manager by emc2 Architects? It's an amazing tool that has already saved me a ton of time, and it's free. http://www.emc2architects.com/revit_tools.html
It doesn't necessarily add the functionality you are talking about, but it does make it real easy to add new entries, which could then be used by a user keynote.
