View Full Version : Temporary dimensions of inserts on angled walls

I have a building with several 45-deg. angled walls in the layout. Whenever I place a door on any of these angled walls I get no temp dimensions as I'm placing the door, and no temp dimensions appear when I click on the door after placement. This is a big hassle as I'm placing doors in all rooms of the layout solely using temporary dimensions, and with these I have to stop, place a hard dimension, adjust door position with the hard dimension, then delete the dimension.
Anyone else having these issues?

From what I recall, it's always been that way. It is a little frustrating but on an angled wall there is nothing perpendicular for Revit to set a temporary dimension to.

Do you get the "Activate Dimensions" button on the Options bar after you've selected the door?

Nope, no temp dimensions and no Activate Dimensions button. I've posted about this before happening in seemingly random locations, but I noticed it happens on every angled wall I have where another angled wall doesn't intersect the first angled wall.
However I do have one place where I have a reference plane going through the center of one angled wall, and when I place a door in that wall I don't even get temp's to the reference plane! So annoying! :banghead:

It is related to the join condition at the ends of the host wall. If the join condition is perpendicular to the wall then a temp dim will be displayed from the door/window. If the join condition is not perpendicular then temp dims are not displayed.
One way that MIGHT be quicker than placing a permanent dim for positioning and then deleting, would be to "disallow" the join at one or both wall ends before placing the insert. You will then have temp dims displayed. If you then relocate the temp dims you can even rejoin the walls and the temp dims will still display when the insert is selected.
