has anybody on here ever used Grading Groups to do an ADA ramp or a set of steps coming out of a building? I'm currently working on one and kind of stumbling through it but making a little progress....

I've helped a client with using feature lines to do the same type of items, but not a grading object.

after struggling for a little bit, ok for a while. it finally clicked. you have to use a combination of both of them. but it really is not as hard as i thought it was going to be after failing miserably on the first pass.

To save time in the future on doing these types of activities, I always suggest going "old school" a bit (as far as Civil 3D is concerned) and create some default blocks for your ADA ramps and steps out of 3D Lines or Polylines. It is really easy, then, to insert the block from the Tool Palette, explode it, turn them into Feature Lines from Objects, and adding to a Grading Group. You could save a step by just WBLOCKing out Feature Lines to a new drawing file block, but I've had inconsistent results when inserting them into a new drawing due to their nature of being a "named" object in Civil 3D.

that is so true! i always get this "oh, you stupid thing" feeling though. imagine how i felt after struggling for nearly two days trying to make this work then to realize my mistake and have it done in about 20 minutes.... as Homer Simpson would say "DOH !!!"
