View Full Version : Modelling a Ribbed Structural Slab?

I need to model structural floors to show the ribs or beams at ceiling level. This is going to be an FM model as well as a rendering/project model for presentations to the public so the level of detail is necessary in this instance. I can't decide the best approach. I have thought about creating tees and adding them to a structural beam system but I find stuctural beams tricky at join conditions. I have considered a floor slab with a face based void to cut the underneath out with could be more user friendly but may produce a larger overhead on model performance. Ideas please?

Barrie,

You can try joining to slabs together instead. One is the Main foor slab. The other would be the depth of the ribs and beams underneath. Use the Join Geometry tool.

That isn't what I want to achieve. I could just add another layer in the floor structure. It's geometry I'm trying to add. I have attached a photo to illustrate the desired effect.

This is what I did by joining the three separate floor slabs thickness. 6" floor slab, 18" floor slab and 24" floor slab. Plan view sketches outline the beam or girder locations.

I see what you mean now. It's quite a clean and simple solution. I will have to give it a go and render it to see how it looks without the tapered profile. Hopefully it will be suitably convinicing. Cheers
