When I first linked in my client's AutoCAD First Floor Plan to start tracing it with Revit walls, I used the "Auto - Center to Center" option to position it... mostly because I didn't happen to click on the little window to learn that I had other options available... like "Auto - Origin to Origin". (That dialog box default has cost me days of trouble so far, and frankly, I can't figure out why the "Auto - Center to Center" option even exists.)
So I linked in my Cad file and it got dropped in some random location on the blank screen... determined by the "center" of who knows what. I've since built a whole bunch of Revit model based on the position of that linked file, and now I see that somehow the linked file has been shifted about a 1/4". I guess I didn't know I had accidentally selected it when I tried relocating a wall? Who knows? It's busted now.
First Question: Was there a way to lock the location of a linked Cad file somewhere in a dialog box that I missed?
Second Question: Is there any tried and true method to fix this problem accurately? Since my linked file was now in what I call a "double-random position"... I went to Manage Links to change the insertion point of my linked Cad file(s) to "Origin to Origin". The linked files then, of course, shifted dramatically... taking the imported families that I later created using the "Origin to Origin" option with them. My porch canopy system ended up half inside my house and half inside the interior courtyard. I'm now trying to figure out a way to grab all of my building to reposition it to the new origin... the one that matches my Cad file's origin.
I guess I have a few options... none of which I seem to be able to do accurately... because there is no OSNAP?
• I guess I could have tried to reposition my linked Cad file back to the top corner of the Revit first floor slab... ignoring the fact that the origin of my Cad file was random. I wouldn't care as long as they matched up!
• I guess I can still try to select all the elements of my building and then try to drag and reposition them to the new origin of the linked Cad file... but I don't seem to be able to OSNAP to either. It appears I can only eyeball the relocation?
• I'm wondering whether I should try to start a new Revit project, link in the floor plan to match origins, and then try bringing in the elements of the old file... or would that put my entire building under the category of "Imported Families" or something like that?
I need to know the best way to fix this... Thanks!
