We are in the process of rolling out one of our first projects in Revit. We have a bunch of 2D typical, standard details in CAD that we would like to bring into Revit and be able to insert into a Revit project when needed. These are not details related to the building model, but rather stagnant typical 2D details we use over and over again.

I have seen several methods listed in the forums. Question is what is involved with converting an exploded CAD detail in Revit into "Revit linestyles", etc? I know bringing in the CAD Detail and exploding it brings alot of garbage with it, but what is the best practice for cleaning that garbage out and leaving a clean, Revit-based set of 2D Details in a library for staff to use? Thanks.

Use a temporary Revit file based on your company template as a conversion file or "dummy file." Once the CAD detail is converted to Revit lines, Filled Regions and Text - copy and paste to a permanent library file. This keeps all of the AutoCAD remnants out of the final file version.
We keep all of our library details in individual Revit files broken up by Category. For instance - We have one Revit Library file for Low-Slope Roofing Details. To transfer to a project, we use the "Insert View from File" command in Revit and choose the drafting views we want to insert. I hope that answers your question.
