The company that I work for want to better organize the Families in the Project Browser. I was able to setup our organization in the Views and Sheets by Folder and applying Filters but if I want to "organize the Families" in a different way than just Families->Doors then all the types. I want to be able to go into Families->08-Doors->Hollow_Metal then types and add another for 08-Doors->Wood then all the types. Is this possible to screw with the Families in the Project Browser?

Thanks
Billy

What you are looking for is achievable with a naming system. For isntance if you name your doors

Door-Hollow_Metal-....
Door-Solid_Core-....

They will sort that way in the project browser. We also prefix family names with the Masterformat division. That way in a folder, they will also have that order. Look for the content creation guidlines in Autodesk Seek for naming examples. Hope that helps.

That is what brought this on was that 67 page Revit Model Content Style Guide and the Seek Content pdf. I was hoping to rename the Main Folders if I could cause the powers that be asked why we can't rename the folder called Doors in the Families.

We are going thru all the 1000's of families we have and pairing down to just the ones we use and applying that Naming convention to it.

We've been helping a number of customers with this arduous task, not just for custom 3D families, or system families, but also for Detail Components. Having a clean Project Browser is one of the best ways to increase productivity on a project, particularly for projects where the team members change during the course of the project.

This video, showing the use of the CSI naming in front of the Detail Components is another way to organize the data for both 2D and 3D objects.

We renamed all our detail components to have CSI number prefixes, too. Naming conventions for doors and windows is a bit of a bear. You want the names to be terse but recognizable.
But you can't rename the Door heading in the browser to 08- Doors. Would be nice if the factory did this on a future release.
