View Full Version : Dealing with all the levels that come in with linked RVT files?

I'm working on a multifamily project and have each unit floor plan as a link in my building model. However, each link brings in it's own level tags, so when looking at my main building in elevation I see a mess of level tags.
Is this how it's supposed to work or am I doing something wrong in how I'm creating links? If this is how it's supposed to work what's the best way to clean them up?
Thanks!

Turn them off.
Visibility Graphics (VG)
Revit Links
Display Settings (set to custom)
Annotation Catagories
Levels (uncheck)

Excellent! Thank you Mike.
I had looked though VG, but didn't realize I could click on the box under "Display Settings" to change it to custom.

The only way that I know how to get rid of the levels in the link file is to go to the "Revit links" in the visibility graphics dialogue, in the "Display Settings" column, click on "custom".
This will take you to a "RVT Link Display Settings" dialogue box,
Click on the Annotation categories tab.
Ensure Custom is selected, untick "levels".
Unfortunately you have to do the same task for each linked files.

Mike pretty much provided this exact answer above.
You can also create a view template that only overrides levels in linked views and apply it to all elevation/section views at once in the project browser.

These windows open with multiple tabs across the top. It is very easy to focus on the open tab and ignore the others. I do it all the time

one thing i wonder about is that view template for overriding VG of linked model won't necessary apply to new project w/ new linked model, i don't know if i missed something.
for instance, i added view template in my project template to override VG of dummy linked model so all model elements in dummy linked model will be transparent in host (project template) model.
1) after using reload from to replace dummy model in real project, applying that view template will work
2) but won't work for other linked model(s)
3) won't work if using transfer project standards to transfer that view template into another project
don't know if there's a way to globally apply view template for overrided VG of linked model(s), no matter if it's exactly the reloaded from model or other linked model or using TPS, anyone can verify it?

Yeah, I've noticed that also. I have the same unit plan links in all 6 of my apartment models, but when I transfer view templates from one to another the custom settings for the Revit links don't get transferred.

Agreed. That's a nice tip. I hadn't thought of using view templates like that where you set it to only override a single value. Thanks!
