Is there a way to quickly find out the area of a exterior surface?

Let's say a 9' long x 8' high, and 3" thick wall. If I want to to the take off of this wall, it keeps giving me the area of every face of this wall but in reality I should only be getting 72' SF.

Any idea how to achieve that or is it even possible? I can do this quite easily in other softwares, but I still can't figure out how to do that in Revit.

Thanks in advance.

Revit 2012 test works for me.

Wall 40 long and 20 high, area reports 800 SF.

see attached.

How about if I have multiple walls and I want to isolate just the walls? Can I get a "grand total" of all of the walls that are selected?

Yes, with a Wall Material Takeoff Schedule.

It will report Grand Totals.

View>Schedule>Material Takeoff>Walls category>Material: Area Field
Check Calculate Values for Material Area filed
Check Grand Totals

Done.

cheers!
