I'm looking at entirely redoing the stock export settings and replacing them with my firms CAD Layer standards.

Obviously this is a big task and I'm trying to know as much as I can about it before I begin.

Are there any easy ways to do this or will I have to setup the output layers for each element type manually?

I think you will have to start with the provided template and modify it.

We don't really care about doing this because we try to never work in CAD and we never print from it if we can help it. The only CAD documents we produce is when requested by others and then our standards really don't matter anyways.

I'd love to not have to work in cad at all, its what I keep telling my firm!

I've just had it clarified actually; the reason we export to cad, that I've been told, is so that our consultants won't be lost, because they're used to seeing certain things in our dwgs and also so that they can easily cycle between floor plan and rcp, etc, via CAD's layer states manager, so that they can properly coordinate their dwg's.

The idea of layer states actually adds a great deal more complexity to this problem. I'm thinking.. I'll need to go through and edit all the layers manually, via revit's export settings. But after that I'll still need to go through and do some pretty serious cad work to get the layer states set up won't i? I'm wondering if there's a better way of dealing with the layer states in a dwg from a revit export. Or maybe there's a better way of dealing with our consultants... hmm
