I am a little confused about interpreting pat files. Have read the Revit blurb on the pat structure and I have managed to suss out a running bond without fully knowing why it works. How do I get to grips with more complex patterns? The issue I have is that trial and error is to long winded in Revit beacuse I have to keep reimporting the pattern and exit the materials dialog to see the update so I can't experiment to freely. Any ideas about how I get to grips with this?

Is it a model pattern, or a drafting pattern? It needs to be a model pattern to have grips.

Try this....it helps explain how it all works....

I tend to create a fill type to see how it works before I apply it to a material...just place the fill on a plan or elevation and start experimenting with the fill itself..

Great! That tutorial says it all. Strange thing is, I woke this morning with a clear understanding. It is amazing how well the brain processes new things during a good night of sleep.

There is an add in that can help you create pattern files for Revit as well.
