Hi,
Not sure which forum to post to so I'll start here.

We've been given some land survey data in a AutoCad drawing and I would like to convert this into a 3D model so that we can landscape this model and find out how much soil will need to be moved and placed elsewhere. If the data points were in consistent lines right across the area I would consider drawing polylines and then lofting but there are areas where the points are randomly positioned.

Is this possible in AutoCad 2011/2008 or would 3D Civil be needed?

ps. I've stripped some data from the attached file to meet file size limitations.

Civil 3D and someone who knows how to use it. Hopefully the firm that you got the drawing from could do the work for you. This isn't the type of work you just jump into. There is other software out there, but none I'd recomend. Last one we used has switched to simply providing plug-ins for Civil 3D.

Carlson Software Civil would be a usable alternative to Civil3d for what you are trying to accomplish. It's a bit more flexible than civil3D IMO, and would have a lesser learning curve.
