In Revit 2009 and 2010 I use to be able to control the visibility of a family in legend view by placing a family in a job with the options that I want on. then place it in a legend (for example in a door family if I want to see the view window in a legend I would place the door in and use a yes no parameter to turn off the window, then when I add it to the legend the window was off. Now in 2011 it just places the default family in with all options on. I know they added more control in 2012's legend but how can I do the same thing in 2011.

The only way I know of right now is to create multiple family types which is ok (see attached) but I use to be able to do it without creating multiple ones. any suggestions:?:

Make use of subcategories to control frame and panel visibility in your legend views. In the door family, the frame element should be set to the Frame/Mullion subcategory, the door panel set to the Panel subcategory, etc.

Then in your legend view simply turn off those categories that you don't want to see.

ahhh I see so you are making multiple legends for the same door Type. OK I see how that works. Funny how you use to put all the doors in the same legend just with the workaround I use to do. This way will work better then the create many door types options attempt I uploaded.

Thanks for the quick feedback.

do you have any sugestions about curtain wall doors. Right now we are using a elevation view. This sucks because we have to turn off the elevation symbol in every sheet lol.

Legend components suck for CW/CW panels. Use a detail section view instead, and set the "hide in scales coarser than.." to auto-hide them in your primary documentation views.

We just use a standard door family that looks the same as our CW door family for legend views.

The other option is using phasing for legend views. You can search for info on here, but basically you have 2 phases before your Existing phase. You place a wall and doors/windows in the earliest phase, demolish them in the next phase, which means everything is gone before your existing phase and doesn't affect your other model views.
