View Full Version : Placing Groups

This is probably a pretty basic question, but...
When I place a Group by dragging it in from the Project Browser, it comes in right where I want it. But then Revit wants me to specify a location and rotation. I don't want to move it or rotate it, I just want to stick it where it is. But I have to pick a point and an angle. If I'm zoomed back, I end up picking the wrong point sometimes.
Is there a way to say "use current location"? Kind of like (dare I say it?) AutoCAD's @ Enter.

Really...no one knows?....no one else has this problem?..

Not that no one else has the problem, I believe this is just one of those "That's the way it is" problems.

I think its already on the Wish List., tho

Can't say I have had the same problem! It's just a drag and click here

I'd like to resurrect this post as i'm trying to accurately place a group (...a text note) on several different sheets and there doesn't appear to be a way to "...past to same location" etc. Is there a way these days?

Appreciate any responses.

If you drag it from the browser a ghosted image of the group should appear in the view and you can place it in the same location in plan because it should 'snap' to the groups origin point.

Hi Dimitri -

I agree - the ghosted image seems to "snap" into exactly the right location BUT there doesn't seem any way to confirm that exact location i.e. hit enter to place it right where it's ghosted.
You still have to "click" the left mouse button which leaves it open to moving the group from the location in which you originally wanted it?

Am i still missing something?

Maybe I'm missing something?
As soon as you select a group and drag it in to the active view you get two things;
1. at your cursor you see a dashed outline representing the extents of the group and the x-y axis arrows representing the origin of the group.
2. in the model there is also a ghosted image of the group complete with x-y arrows. This ghost is shown exactly where it was created when it was first made into a group.

When you drag the group to locate it accurately all of Revit's object snaps are available (end, intersection, mid point etc). If you get the group close to the original point a cross hair cursor appears telling you that it will snap to that point. As long as that cross hair is there it will be placed at the same point.
