i'm hating views

I've asked everyone i know in person this and everyone says there is no way to control what i'll call the home state that opens every time you open a view. so i'm asking the broader audience if you've found any tricks or if anyone has messed around with trying to control how a view is saved.

when you create a view for the first time at what point does it save the appearance?

i've noticed some views always go back to zoom extents every time while other views seem to resave their state each time you close them so they open where you left off.

i've noticed that if you have a view open and then open a new view, sometimes the new view opens in the appearance of the already open view, sometimes not.

i'm just looking for a rhyme or reason to the way views work and maybe i can change something to be able to either save a view the way i leave it OR have it return to a predictable/set home state. in either case i wish i could choose how it behaved.

I'm not sure either. It seems like floor plans will open zoomed to the same place as another floor plan already open. But then if you're working in a view that's on a sheet, and then open another view, it's zoomed way off to the side somewhere.

Keep in mind that views that you open stay open until you specifically close them. So if you're in a view, open another view, then click to go back to that 1st view, it stays where it was before because it's been open the whole time behind your other windows (assuming you work with views maximized which I do 98% of the time).

I frequently use Ctrl-Tab to switch between open views, or the Switch Windows button on the quick access bar. And from time to time if the Switch Windows list of open windows gets too crowded I'll just hit the Close Hidden button to close all views except the current view. Why the Switch Windows button will only show 9 views at a time, I have no idea. That's kind of a pain, also - having to hit the Show More button to bring up a list of views instead of seeing them all in the drop down if you have more than 9 views open.
