Is it possible to copy a whole model to the clipboard and then paste it into another Revit file without creating a whole host of errors?! Either this, or import an "exploded" Revit model?

Thanks

Hi swiss cheese why would you do that? copying the whole model and pasting to another revit file are you merging two separate model? Why not just link the two files then.

The reason - we were working on two seperate models but now want to edit them simultaneously within the same file. This probably doesn't sound like a good reason.......... but hey, we're architects - do we have a good reason for anything?!!?

From what we have found, Revit cannot do the copy/clip/paste thing succesfully. We have tried to do this to take care of "options" in the design phase, but were not successful.

It WOULD BE NICE to take a roof from one option to the tower of another option to add to the podium of another option.

Maybe a fix in the mysterious, and mythological Revit 6.0?

Did you find a good way to do this yet? I have the same trouble, we created a facade model so that we could make design changes and not effect the core model but now I want the two together.

ThanksTry File>Import/Link and don't check the link box. This should import the other revit file in so you can work on both within the same file.

When you import a RVT file the link box is not an option like the DWG file type.

If you are in an elevation view with your full extents shown so you see all the levels and copy everything(levels included) it should work fine. There are sometimes problems with inplace families, but usually I can get entire models copied, the trick is to get the same levels in the file you are copying to. You may want to do it is pieces and parts, select everything then filter out groups(you may need to ungroup groups). but you can do it with a little work.

The screen shot you show is what I have for inserting a DWG file. When I try to place a RVT file all the options on the lower left side of the dialog box are not there.

When I have all the elevation extents shown it seem to copy to the clipboard ok but when I try and paste it into the other file all the paste options are grayed out.

You will have to filter something out, something is causing a problem, try copying the levels first, then select everything in 3d, then paste aligned in the other file.
