How can I control the line weights of Fill Patterns?

You can edit the boundary line of the fill, but not the linework of the pattern itself.

Would this also apply to making certain lines or sections of lines of a surface pattern to be invisible via the linework tool - 'invisble line'.

Any clues how I could do this it if not possible thru the above method? Maybe just use drafting lines to represent what I need. I need to represent expressed joints in external wall cladding.
